Signed Lance Mountain Doughboy Skateboard Playing Cards: A Collector's Review

When two iconic worlds collide—skateboarding and playing cards—the result is something truly special. The signed Lance Mountain Doughboy skateboard playing cards are a testament to that fusion, bringing together the legendary skateboarder's artistic vision with the precision of a premium card deck. As a collector and enthusiast, I was eager to get my hands on this deck, and after spending time with it, I'm here to share my honest thoughts.

Lance Mountain is a name that resonates deeply within the skateboarding community. Known for his innovative style and contributions to the sport, his foray into playing cards is a natural extension of his creative expression. This deck isn't just a set of cards; it's a piece of skate history, wrapped in a collectible format that appeals to both skaters and card aficionados alike.

First Impressions: Unboxing the Doughboy Deck

The unboxing experience sets the tone for any collectible, and the Lance Mountain Doughboy deck does not disappoint. The packaging is robust and visually striking, featuring artwork that immediately captures the essence of the Doughboy character—a playful yet edgy mascot that has become synonymous with Lance's brand. The tuck box is designed with a matte finish and subtle foil accents, giving it a premium feel that hints at the quality within.

Inside, the cards are housed in a custom deck sleeve, adding an extra layer of protection and presentation. The first thing you notice is the vibrant, full-bleed artwork that covers every card. The court cards are reimagined with skate-themed illustrations, and the number cards feature custom pips that align with the Doughboy aesthetic. It's clear that no detail was overlooked in the design process.

Design and Artwork: A Skateboarder's Dream

The design of the Lance Mountain Doughboy cards is where this deck truly shines. Each card is a canvas, featuring intricate illustrations that blend skate culture with classic card iconography. The back design is a masterpiece—featuring a repeating pattern of the Doughboy character in various poses, set against a backdrop of bold colors and geometric shapes. It's the kind of design that makes you want to keep the deck on display rather than tucked away in a drawer.

The court cards are particularly impressive. Instead of the traditional kings, queens, and jacks, you'll find characters that embody the skateboarding spirit—think gnarly skaters, rad grannies, and the iconic Doughboy himself. The attention to detail is remarkable, with each character having its own distinct personality and style. This is a deck that begs to be examined card by card.

• Custom back design with Doughboy character pattern
• Unique court cards with skate-themed characters
• High-quality printing that brings the artwork to life

Quality and Handling: Built for Performance

While the artwork is a major draw, the handling of the cards is equally important, especially for those who plan to use them for cardistry or magic. The Lance Mountain Doughboy deck is printed on premium card stock with a smooth, durable finish. The cards have a nice snap to them, and they shuffle easily without feeling flimsy. The finish also resists moisture and wear, ensuring that the deck maintains its quality even with frequent use.

I put these cards through their paces—doing faro shuffles, springs, and even a few magic tricks—and they performed admirably. The edges are clean, and the cards are well-cut, which is crucial for smooth handling. Whether you're a seasoned cardist or just enjoy a casual game of poker, this deck won't disappoint.

• Premium card stock with a smooth, durable finish
• Excellent for shuffling, cardistry, and magic
• Resistant to wear and moisture

Collector's Value: Signed and Limited

One of the most appealing aspects of this deck is its collectibility. The signed Lance Mountain Doughboy deck is a limited edition release, with each deck personally signed by Lance himself. This adds a personal touch that elevates it from a mere deck of cards to a genuine piece of memorabilia. For collectors, this is a significant factor, as signed items often appreciate in value over time.

The deck also comes with a certificate of authenticity, ensuring that your purchase is genuine. Whether you're a skateboard enthusiast looking to own a piece of history or a card collector seeking a unique addition to your collection, this deck offers something special. It's the kind of item that you'll want to keep sealed, but it's also durable enough to enjoy if you choose to use it.

• Limited edition with Lance Mountain's signature
• Includes certificate of authenticity
• Potential to appreciate in value

Comparisons and Alternatives

In the world of collectible playing cards, there are many options, but few capture the same crossover appeal as the Lance Mountain Doughboy deck. For those who appreciate unique, artistic decks, the FULTONS 1/1 Collection Mystery Art Decks offer a similar sense of discovery and artistry, though without the skateboarding theme. On the other hand, if you're drawn to the gilded and limited edition aspect, the AQUA GILDED LIMITED EDITION FRANKLIN BBQ OFFICIAL PLAYING CARDS provide a different kind of luxury with their gold foil edges.

Ultimately, the Lance Mountain Doughboy deck stands out for its niche appeal. It's not just a deck of cards; it's a crossover collectible that bridges two passionate communities. If you're a fan of either world, this deck is a must-have.

• Unique crossover between skateboarding and playing cards
